Back from NYC (entry packed with photos)

Well, I'm back from New York City, and this is the first installment of the photos I took whilst out there.

I didn't have too much time, so this just what I choose from looking at the negatives and scanning immediately in, if I could I'd scan all of them in and edit down that way. But oh well.
He just wanted a beard. ;)

You guys in America, you have massive streets. It's kinda nice actually. Oh, and the light in the city is WEIRD. We don't get light quite like it here in England, I swear.

And fur coats. You have a lot of fur coats. We saw a protest, I was gonna go and make photos of them, but I would have just gotten in an argument with them. Instead, I went with my mates into that place with the giant toys.

Lauren was so happy. Lol. I underexposed her though - was exposing for the rabbit, she needed some fill flash. Oh well. haha.

I kinda liked these, the colours were gorgeous, I know someone who'd love it... but... it was a little expensive for what it was and i was on a budget.

Awe-much?

More fur coats.

Not my favorite shot.

Part of my aim was to keep getting close to people, as close as I could.

So i got in close... weird people in NYC. Who would choose to wear those glasses?!

What an expression to catch. I guess walking backwards alongside someone will get you some odd looks ;)

Jazz club man vs English School boys.

His expression was so lifeless, I had to stop and take a picture. Nice juxtaposition of the 'fuel' being poured into him methinks. What prompts a man to look that lifeless?!

Michael Moore!?

Queuing up for Knicks game tickets

Monopoly money!

Dave took a leaf out of my book and start shooting street with the Mamiya RB67

For those who were wondering about size - that's what I was shooting with.

I don't think she was experiencing any form of drive.

Policemen. Not too friendly to people with cameras I've noticed. Hipshot, so i cut off their heads. Works though, imo. They aren't who they are, they are what they represent - the law. And the law laughs in the face of danger. Or something like that.

Classic NYC shot? Just felt right to me. Go on, click on it and give a full view. (started linking images from PhotoFuck-it so images will now open up full size when clicked upon)

Yeah, he's a gangsta, yo.

Photo.

A witch, a busy woman and a very scared Chinese man.

I think this guy swore at me after I made a photo of him. Good eye contact though. Maybe he wants to be a model deep down?

Very happy with that shot... very classic NYC photo.

This guy was obviously "representing". He said so. Loudly. I wodner what he represents? The 80's?

Baby photo. Very important if you want to be taken seriously as a photographer.

Errol has always had a subtle approach to photography.

Not bad for an exposure on Bulb f/2. G Nice tones too.

Amazing that she can struggle along with only one leg like that. (note: this isn't the first time i've managed to lose someone's leg in a picture. Where the fuck do they go!? It's like the Bermuda triangle, but for legs.)

n.b. - full view this and you'll see that I was panning with her hand and that the ciggy is in focus. Why do people not travel at the same speed as their cigarettes? Logic-less madness.

I quite enjoy this photo. guy on the right sounded italien, guy on the left didn't say a word, just looked angry and the guy who has his back to me was just a slimeball from the sound of his voice.

More cigarette panning. Dusk and 125 speed film is not easy on the street with moving targets.

A few men having a nostalgic moment. Found it amusing that they were being indicated as souvenirs.

The up into the umbrella shot. Full view this and you'll be surprised that there's detail in the subjects face.

New game: Kick a pigeon and then try take a photo of it as it flies off. Not a bad job, eh? 125th f/2.8 + 1/3rd-stop for those wondering (if memory serves correctly).

Some people just can't control their ties.

I was pretty happy that I got this close. I think this was just under 0.9m

Classic Manhattan, complete with steam.

Go on, full view it. You know you want to.

"That one." "Why that one?" "Because it's at my head height." - What??

The "Oh shit, we have to talk to people?!" face, as by Jade.

Well. Can't accuse them of being secretive.

"Hey, Lister!" Yeah, serves you right for the ugly shit you photographed of me. At least I exposed you well. Motherfucker. Haha.

With human - making it street.

Without people close to the lens - making it art. The small human figures represent the insignificance of human life in comparison to the harm we are doing to the world (represented by the buildings) and our love of control (represented by the traffic lights) - there is further subtle commentary on how all humans are sheep as all traffic is flowing in one direction.

Btw - my name's Eeyore. (Read Winnie the Pooh if you don't understand - he's a donkey. Hint bloody hint. I think my bitterness of being alone on Valentines is showing.)

Mr Matrix. If the Matrix was gay. (Trust me, if you met him, you'd understand. He was cool, let me make a photo quite happily. Which I did a great job of underexposing.)

If your blog isn't popular, include more baby photos - it's sure to increase the amount of clicks you get.

Ever wonder what happens to the phones that escape the Matrix?

This guy was pretty cool too. Gotta find his email address and send him a copy. Kinda like it cropped, but I wanted to get in the sign on his right.

That's the crop. I dunno. You decide.

Y'know, I think the world should be glad we're street photographers, because otherwise we'd make good stalkers, and stalkers are just creepy.

I'm not big on American Vehicles (though some chevvies are fucking sweet) but this was a nice ass car. I remember having a friend lean over my shoulder and say "So... why Leica anyway?" and I zoomed in to the headlight, where you could see ever little detail "I like Lenses that don't give out before the film I use. And it's silent as the wind."

Even bikes get more love than I do.

He was so diligent in his work... makes you wonder why he is where he is when he could be charging so much more if he simply talked to the right people and got a job somewhere expensive.

No idea why i shot this from the hip. I just did. Super cool, me.

Full view it, please. Just for me. I love that shot. Very in the moment. Love it. But that's just me.

And that's it, for now. A lot more photos to come. I think this last one should go on my site.

@ Haonavy: Getting close is surprisingly easy - just step in time with them but take slightly longer strides or creep quietly up to them, prefocused and with an idea of how you want the shot.
